Model 60-BRT-The Big Bus in LA Metro

LA Metro bus went to CNG in a big way. The North American Bus Industries (Nabi) and Los Angeles Metro officials presented the first 200 high capacity buses Nabi Model 60-BRT, which will run in a number of busiest corridors in Los Angeles and the Metro Orange Line bus. CNG and super-size 60-ft BRT articulated buses will be the first to work in Los Angeles in two decades.

At 60 feet, 60-BRT is 20 meters higher than the standard bus and seats 57 passengers, 45% more than the standard bus.

60-BRT uses the new Cummins Westport L Gas Plus ultra-low emissions, low NOx natural gas, which provides 238 kilowatts (320 hp) and peak torque of 1,356 Nm (1,000 Nm). It was designed from the outset as a CNG engine, it is impossible to convert existing diesel platform.

The Metro has 200 60-BRT buses, which each cost $ 633,000 to Nabi. Delivery of the first 30 vehicles should be completed by June 2005 and the remaining 170 vehicles for June 2006. With the implementation of this contract and additional orders for 75 40-LFW buses Nabi Nabi will be delivered in 1175 CNG.
